What is Mittaphap INTERNATIONAL?

Beyond the Blackboard: How Hospitality Training is Changing Lives in Laos

What is it actually like to volunteer with Mittaphap International in Laos? It is the perfect balance of meaningful community impact and unforgettable Southeast Asian adventure.

Based in peaceful Ban Nathong (Nathong Village)—right next to the iconic Blue Lagoon 1—our program immerses you directly into rural Lao culture. Here is your typical, rewarding daily schedule.

7:30 AM – Breakfast & Lesson Prep

Your day begins as the mist clears over Vang Vieng’s limestone karst mountains. Wake up in our shared community dormitory or your private guesthouse and head over to the main hub. Fuel up with a fresh local breakfast and sit down with fellow international volunteers to map out your interactive activities for the day.

9:00 AM – Classroom Teaching

Time to head to school! Our primary mission is providing free English classes to local students. You will lead dynamic conversational lessons, play educational games with younger kids, or run interactive workshops. The students are incredibly eager to learn, and your presence helps them build vital language skills for future global opportunities.

No experience? No problem. We welcome passionate individuals from all backgrounds, and certified teachers are eligible for custom fee discounts!

12:30 PM – Lunch at MITTAPHAP Restaurant

By midday, language teaching smoothly transitions into our community hospitality initiative. We gather for lunch at the MITTAPHAP Restaurant. This isn’t just a eatery—it’s a working classroom where local youth receive hands-on training in culinary arts, guest relations, and management to boost their future employability.

2:00 PM – Confidence & Community Health

After lunch, afternoons are dedicated to specialized community tracks:

  • Public Speaking & Leadership: Mentoring older youth using a globally recognized Toastmasters format to build presentation skills and self-confidence.
  • Health-care Initiatives: Leading vital, grassroots workshops in local schools focusing on hygiene education and healthy daily habits.

3:30 PM – Blue Lagoon 1 Adventures

When the school day wraps up, the breathtaking landscape of Vang Vieng becomes your personal playground. Because our base sits right next to Blue Lagoon 1, you can easily walk over to cool off in the crystal-clear turquoise waters, hike up a nearby mountain viewpoint for sunset, or simply relax with the villagers.
