Education and Community Development

Our education program is at the centre of this mission through our Education Support Circle — the full support system that keeps MITTAPHAP’s education work running through volunteer contributions, local teamwork, teaching resources, and daily project operations.

Activities:

  • English Language Teaching – providing free classes to local students and community members to improve language skills and future opportunities
  • Hospitality Training – offering practical experience at the MITTAPHAP Restaurant to improve service standards, employability, and professional skills
  • Public Speaking / Toastmasters – mentoring students to improve communication, presentation skills, self-confidence, and leadership through a globally recognised format
  • Health-care Initiatives – supporting hygiene education, disease prevention, and healthy daily habits within the community
Teaching English English classes are the main and first part of our educational programs

Toastmasters international

At Mittaphap in Laos, we use Toastmasters’ public speaking programme to enhance communication and presentation skills. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit in the USA that helps people globally to improve their public-speaking skills, communication and confidence.

Every Friday evening we meet at Nasom School to hear students give speeches on a chosen topic. During the week, five or more students work with a teacher or mentor to prepare their speeches. At the event, they present in front of volunteers, other students, guests, and evaluators.

EEFA — Equal Education Fund for All

EEFA is MITTAPHAP’s education-focused support fund. It helps keep free education accessible and sustainable for students in rural communities. It supports:

  • Teaching materials
  • Classroom activities
  • Local teachers and assistants
  • Student support
  • Scholarships
  • Leadership activities
  • Long-term learning opportunities

IT INITIATIVES

Our IT Program serves to help older students and trainees improve their computer and job-related skills.

Scholarships

There are many bright and eager students who travel far to attend our free English classes, rain or shine. Some of these students hope of attending university but cannot afford the application, fees, and cost of living.

Since 2015, our scholarship programme has successfully supported 9 students through their first and second years of university, covering the costs of tuition and living expenses. Post-COVID-19, we are currently supporting one student who is studying in college.

Without your help, we can’t continue this program – please give what you can to support their higher education journeys.
